Career Reality Check

For teenagers aged 15+

Look behind the job title and test what the work is really like.

A job title can sound exciting from the outside — doctor, designer, lawyer, psychologist, entrepreneur, engineer or content creator. But what do people in those jobs actually do every day?

In this short project sprint, you’ll learn how to investigate any career before choosing a path. You’ll choose one career you’re curious about, look beyond the title, research the daily reality, ask better questions, speak to someone who knows, try a small piece of the work, and decide whether it’s a direction worth exploring.

This isn’t about memorising a list of careers. It’s about learning how to test a career idea in real life.

By the end of the course, you’ll complete your own Career Reality Scorecard — a practical tool you can use whenever a new career idea appears.

What you’ll explore

  • How careers are shaped by stereotypes and first impressions
  • How to investigate a career before choosing it
  • How to learn from people doing the work
  • How to test a career through real-life experience
  • How to decide whether it’s the right fit for you

What you’ll create

Your Career Reality Scorecard — including your career research, real-world insights, and a practical next step for exploring the role further.
